Privacy Policy
Effective October 29, 2026
This policy explains what the Tolk app (“Tolk”, “we”) collects, why, and who it is shared with. Tolk is developed by Ilya Morozov. Questions: support@aitolk.app.
The short version: Tolk has no accounts, never receives your voice recordings or photos, and does not keep the text you translate.
What we process
- Text you translate. If you allow cloud translation, the text of each phrase (typed, or recognized from your speech) is sent to our server, which passes it to an AI translation provider and returns the result. Our server does not store this text. If you don't allow cloud translation, phrases are translated on your iPhone with Apple's Translation framework and never reach us. You can change this at any time in Tolk's Settings.
- Speech. Speech is turned into text by Apple's Speech Recognition on your iPhone. Depending on the language and device, Apple may process the audio on its servers under Apple's Privacy Policy. We never receive audio.
- Photos and camera. Text in photos is recognized and translated on your iPhone. Photos are never uploaded.
- History. Your translation history and favorites are stored only on your iPhone. Deleting them in the app or deleting the app removes them.
- Install identifier. Tolk creates a random identifier for your installation. Our server uses it to count free translations, apply your subscription and prevent abuse. Together with it we keep usage records without content: languages, mode, text length, time, and which provider handled the request.
- Purchases. Payments are processed by Apple; we never see your payment details. Subscription status is managed through Adapty, which receives purchase information from Apple and your install identifier.
- Analytics and attribution. Tolk sends product events (for example, that onboarding was completed or a subscription started) to Google Analytics for Firebase and Adjust, to measure how the app is used and which ads brought installs. These events never contain the text you translate. If you allow tracking in the iOS prompt, your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) may be used for this measurement; if you don't, it is not.
- Technical logs. Like any server, ours records IP addresses and request times in short-lived logs to keep the service secure and working.
Service providers
We share data only with providers that help run Tolk, and only what they need:
- AI translation: Anthropic, OpenAI or DeepSeek (only the text of the phrase and the language pair, without your identifier). They process it under their API terms and privacy policies; some keep it for a limited time, for example for abuse monitoring.
- Subscriptions: Adapty. Analytics: Google (Firebase). Install attribution: Adjust.
- Hosting of our server.
We do not sell personal data.
How long we keep it
Translated text is not stored on our server. Usage records and the install identifier are kept while you use Tolk and deleted on request. Server logs and backups are rotated and kept no longer than needed, typically up to 30 days.
Your choices and rights
- Turn cloud translation off in Tolk's Settings.
- Allow or deny tracking in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Ask us to access or delete the data tied to your install by emailing support@aitolk.app. Depending on where you live (for example, in the EU, UK or California), you may have further rights, including objecting to processing and complaining to your data protection authority.
Children
Tolk is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
International transfers
Our server and providers may be located outside your country, including in the United States and China (DeepSeek). We rely on the safeguards these providers offer for such transfers.
Changes
We will post any changes here and update the date above. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
